Third edition of Super Singer announced by Vijay TV

Star’s Tamil offering Vijay TV announced the launch of the third edition of Super Singer titled Airtel Super Singer Season 3. The reality show will be aired Monday to Thursday during the 9 pm  primetime slot starting 12 July.

The ground level auditions took place at Chennai where a Vijay TV release claims that thousands of interested and aspiring young singers took part. An eight member jury comprising of Suvi Suresh, Dr. Lavanya, J.K.V.Roshni, Krishna Iyer, Anitha, Sowmya, Ajeesh and Ravi judged the ground auditions. Jury member Ajeesh was the winner of the first edition of the show in 2008 and has gone on to sing for Yuvan Shankar’s musical, with ‘Ithuvarai ilaatha unarvidhu’ a duet song pairing with Andrea for the film Goa.

Singing personalities S.P.Shylaja, Unni Menon, Pop Shalini and Carnatic vocalist Sowmya were the Judges for the second level of the preliminary auditions in Chennai. Popular playback singers Srinivas, Unni Krishnan and Sujatha are the Judges for Super Singer 3.

Vijay TV promises to make the soon to be aired musical reality show bigger than its predecessors. The initial episodes of Super Singer will feature the auditions phase of various zones. Unique themes like melody, folk, western, duet, one-on-one, unplugged, and many more would be the challenges that will be thrown to the participants.

Airtel continues to be the title sponsor for the new edition of Super Singer. The third edition has three episodes every week, from Monday to Wednesday. The show aims to provide a platform for those above 16 years to showcase their singing talent.

As is the norm in the case of talent hunts in India, Airtel Super Singer 2008 will have a few rounds of competition followed by eliminations and the selected will move onto various levels, eventually leading to the finals. Also, as has become a practice across most talent hunts in India, viewers can participate at various stages in selecting their preferred singers. Ground auditions in Chennai have started yesterday (June 27) and will spill over to Monday (June 30). Playback singers Sunitha Sarathy and Deepan Chakravarthy are the main judges for the ground auditions at Chennai.

Besides Chennai, auditions have been completed at Coimbatore and Trichy. Playback singers SP Shylaja & Srilekha Parthasarathy were the main judges for Coimbatore zone and playback singers Mahathi & Mathangi were the judges in Trichy zone. Fifteen participants each have been selected from Coimbatore and Trichy.

To heighten the audition process in Chennai, video booths were set up at various vantage points across the city at select retail outlets for the participants to record their voice and gain entry for the auditions, claims a Vijay TV release. Around 20 participants could be selected from Chennai since the turn out for the auditions has been more than expected.

The winner of Airtel Super Singer 2008 will get an opportunity to sing to the music composed by the young music director and son of music maestro Ilayaraja Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Retail chain Spencers is the outdoor partner for this edition. The associate sponsors are Johnson Baby, Parle G, Premier Pressure Cooker and Pothys. The official print partner is Kumudam, and the radio partner is Radio Mirchi.
