The much awaited Vijay TV’s fourth annual UniverCell Vijay Awards powered by Rin is back on Vijay TV. This year is sure to be bigger and bolder! Behind every actors success is the face of a fan. To ensure this fact, Vijay Rasigan Express, a publicity van had carried the list of nominees for the FAVORITE category and traveled across Tamilnadu to collect the votes directly from the public.
Of the 131 films released in the year 2009, winners would be declared for 32 Categories. The categories open for Public Voting were FAVORITE awards – Hero, Heroine, Director Film and Song. The customized bus that traversed across Tamilnadu has already collected the votes for the nominees of FAVORITE categories. Once the nominees were announced on the show, ardent movie fans began to cast their votes in order to make their Favorite star win.

All the award winners in both – Favorite & Best Category would be announced on Saturday, May 29, 2010 in a grand event that is to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. The entire film fraternity would be present at the award ceremony from 6pm onwards.
Apart from the five favorite category awards, the 32 BEST categories that would be chosen by the Jury members – Director A. R. Murugadoss, Cinematographer Ravi. K. Chandran, Actress Radhika Sarathkumar, Film Critic/Cartoonist Madan and Popular Writer/Director/Producer Yugi Sethu also would be announced on the D day.
Few award categories from the films released in 2009 like Best Film, Best Actor Male/Female, Best Supporting Actor Male/Female, Best Comedian, Best Villian, Best Playback Singer Male/Female, Best Debut Actor Male/Female, Best Choreographer, Best Film Editor, Best Lyricist, Best Art Director, Best Dress Designer, Best Dialogue Writer., would be announced by the panel of Jury members.

‘Pasanga' steals show at Vijay awards
'Pasanga' bagged the most number of awards at the fourth UniverCell Vijay Awards 2009 function at a star-studded gathering here on Saturday. It won five awards in different categories, providing a jubilant moment for the entire team that went on stage to receive the ‘Best Crew' award. Child artists Kishore and Sriram enacted an action scene from the movie to a resounding applause from the full house at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. They received the ‘Best Child Artiste' award for their performance in the film.
While director Pandiraj won the ‘Best Find of the Year' for ‘Pasanga,' actor Vimal got the ‘Best Newcomer' (male) award from Member of Parliament Kanimozhi. Jayaprakash was declared the ‘Best Supporting Actor' (male) for the same movie. The speech and hearing impaired actor Abinaya received a standing ovation for her performance in ‘Nadodigal.' She bagged the ‘Best Supporting Actor' (female) award. Favourite category awards chosen by Vijay TV viewers were presented under five categories. Actors Vijay and Anushka won the Favourite Hero and Favourite Heroine awards for their performance in ‘Vettaikaran.' ‘Ayan' starred by Suriya was chosen as Favourite Film and the Favourite Song of the Year 2009 went to ‘Oru Chinnathamarai.' Director Samuthrakani received the Favourite Director Award. Among the 27 categories chosen by jury members, actors Prakashraj and Pooja won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards for films ‘Kancheevaram' and ‘Naan Kadavul' respectively.
Bala bagged the Best Director award for ‘Naan Kadavul'. ‘Nadodigal' was chosen as the best film of 2009. Receiving the Best Music Director award, Harris Jayaraj said he was elated to win the Vijay Award for the fourth time since its inception. Actor Suriya was chosen as the best entertainer of the year. While Santhanam was chosen as Best Comedian for Siva Manasula Sakthi, Rajendran got Best Villain award for ‘Naan Kadavul.' Information Minister Parithi Ellamvazhuthi spoke. The colourful ceremony was interspersed with scintillating dance and music performances, including those of playback singer Karthik, music director Vijay Antony and actor Sneha.

Sun TV PAT up 30%
Sun TV Network Ltd has reported about 30 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 567.38 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010, from Rs 437.11 crore for the previous year. Revenue grew by about 38 per cent to Rs 1,359.01 crore compared to Rs 1,008.20 crore. The company’s board has recommended final dividend of Rs 6 per equity share of face value of Rs 5 each in view of the silver jubilee year of the company. This is in addition to the interim dividend of 30 per cent, which is Rs 1.50 per equity share declared in January.
“The company has posted sharp increase of four per cent in EBITDA (earnings before, interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) from 76.53 per cent. The growth in revenue has been largely a function of the sustained advertising growth and subscription revenue from across multiple product categories,” said Ajay Vidyasagar, said Ajay Vidyasagar, chief operating officer of Sun TV. The company effect between 10 per cent and 33 per cent increase in advertisement tariff in January and this will lead to further increase in revenue this fiscal, he added. On an average, Sun enjoys a market share (viewership) of 38 per cent to 40 per cent during weekdays and 30 per cent to 32 per cent on weekends. The total size of the Tamil TV viewing market is between Rs 750 crore and Rs 800 crore. Sun is the market leader and the other major channels such as Kalaignar TV and Vijay TV have average shares of about eight per cent and six per cent respectively (TAM ratings).
Sun is focusing on growing weekend market share on par to that of weekdays by drawing passive audience such as men and children in families, Vidyasagar said. The channel would offer a balanced mix of fictional (soaps) and reality shows including both general entertainment (song, dance and comedy) and non-fiction (game shows), he added.

A new reality dance show hits the small screen on May 31, this time aimed at tiny tots. Ten Junior Jodis will participate in this competition where they face two eliminations week after week.
Popular dancers such as Rinson, Abhinaya, Pranav and Krithika who were part of ‘Boys vs. Girls' will participate.
The show will be judged by a panel of 10 celebrities. Rounds such as Imitation, Freestyle, Black and White Classical, Dancing with a Celebrity and Superhero will add variety. The winning Jodi takes home a cash prize of Rs.5 lakhs. Besides there are special awards for Best dancer - Male / Female, Best Jodi and Best Supporting team.

IQ Tests..
A week before, Kushboo introduced the contestants of the Vijay TV Poorvika Mobile Azhagiya Thamizh Magan. And this week, it is time to test their Intelligence Quotient. The contestants will have to face a volley of questions thrown at them from children between 5 and 10 years. If a contestant fails to provide the right answer, then he would have to take up the punishment given by the concerned kid.
In the previous episodes, the contestants have walked the ramp, showcased their exceptional talent and wooed many stars like Sneha, Priyamani and Padmapriya.
