A.mu & A.pi

This week in Neeya Naana it will be interesting topic in the store waiting for us.. its A.mu and A.pi.. yeah.. Appa varuvatharku mun and Appa vanthathirku pin.. so it would be children and the fathers debating .. its not a kind of respect but rather afraid because of father. this would have happened in many of our lives..when father is around.. we tend to pretend as if we are reading books or doing some work and switch off television.. but I dont think this still happens in many families.. but I am sure most of us would have pretended when we were kids.. good and enjoyable topic..

Sherif - Next Prabhudeva..

It is Sherif who had won the Ungalil yaar adutha Prabhudeva title... I felt it was very tough competition between Sherif & Nanda and finally it was Sherif winning the title from legend Prabhudeva himself. Last night the show was similar to Airtel Super Singer Grand Finals but the show was dragging for midnight..

watch out for the grand finals videos here - Grand Finals

King of Pop is no more

The King of Pop is no more. The pop icon who had entertained millions of music lovers across the globe died in a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday. He was 50. Jackson was breathless when the Los Angeles Fire Department reached his home at around 12.30 pm. The paramedics took him to the UCLA Medical Center after performing CPR. But he died at the Los Angeles Hospital. At the time when racial barrier was predominant it was Michael Jackson with his song and dance dominated the world of music. His album Thriller released in the year 1982 still remains the best seller album of all times. It has sold more than 26 million copies. His fall came when he was charged of molesting a 13 year old boy but was ultimately cleared of these accusations and by the time his financial graphs saw a downward slide.

Yet Michael Jackson will be remembered for his feverous dance moves and electrifying voice.

RCom's Mobi TV on GSM

Reliance Communications will soon offer 35 television channels for its GSM users. It would use Mimobi, a technology platform developed by the Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies, to offer the MobiTV service. “We are in advanced talks with Apalya. The tie-up would help us increase the width of the usage,” Mr Krishna Durbha, Head (Value Added Service), RCom, said here in a statement. RCom is already offering 13 news and other TV channels to its CDMA network, using real-time streaming technology. “Apalya’s Mimobi technology uses progressive download method for playing video. Progressive download means the application initially downloads some part of video file, and then it starts playing the video file,” he said.

Tamil entertainment to learn more..

Twenty-20 (T20) matches were created to give maximum entertainment to fans of the cricket game. They have the glamour and glitz of a big budget Indian mass masala entertainer, with glam girls and flamboyant ex-cricketers taking over the live commentary, and a wide range of high-tech analysis tools put to use. But, it wasn't always like this. In 1987, just four cameras on either end of the wicket were used to cover the matches. The number went up to 14 cameras in 1995 and today as many as 40 cameras are being used for live coverage. All this comes with high-end online editing and recording machines to make it racy and entertaining. But, the same cannot be said of the live coverage of entertainment shows. Tamil entertainment channels struggle when it comes to telecasting live film-based content like an awards night, audio launch or premiere of a big budget star-spangled movie.

Last week, leading director Selva Raghavan and his producer R Ravendran decided at the last minute not to have a live telecast of the audio launch of their eagerly-awaited magnum opus Aayirathil Oruvan. And the reason ? Says Selva Raghavan, "The logistics involved for producing a live entertainment programme, such as an audio launch of a film, is an uphill task. So, we requested the television channel to telecast it after canning and editing the programme." Recently, a leading Tamil TV channel showed a film-based programme live, but had to cut off a speech by one of the speakers, who suddenly took the mike and waxed eloquent. The programme ended abruptly, as the speakers had used up all the air time the channel had allotted.

Says a top television cameraman, who has covered both live cricket and film programmes, "In cricket, there is a commercial break after every over or fall of wicket, to adjust the errors one might have made. In case of live audio launches or award functions, one can't afford to goof up because it is a continuous show and errors will be blatantly visible." According to a report, there are no takers for advertising spots for live film programmes in Tamil at the channel's rate. At the same time, if it is a canned and crisply edited show, it attracts advertisers. The organisers shall also learn from the Oscars better known in television parlance as Academy Awards Night - Live. On this show, every speaker is told the exact seconds he can speak. The special performances are rehearsed well in advance so that everything works with clockwork precision on the night of the show. But, here in Kollywood, can anyone dare to inform the Kollywood biggies to restrict their speech to their stipulated time ?

Boys Vs Girls Grand Finale..

This saturday it would be grand finale in Boys Vs Girls.. dance talent show.. and it wont be LIVE this time ;).. here is the promo.. watch it on saturday 8 PM !!!

Its 50:50

Today in Airtel Singer Junior 2, the grand opening of the show has been with the competition of previous winners/contestants of Super singer 2008 and Junior 1. today I started watching the show lil late and I guess I missed Pop Shalini's entry in the show.. and also the first performance of the day.. So, I started watching only from Vijay Narayan's "newyork nagaram urangum" and it earned him a mp3 player and 10 points for his team. He was followed by the next competition named Melody round.. it had Roshan competing against Nikhil Mathew.. Roshan was the first contestant to perform.. and his "sandana thendralay jennalgal" was awesome..it make Manicka Vinayagam to cry and his words.. "if you have been elder to me, i would not have minded to fall in your feet" touched me. Nikhil Mathew's "vizhi moodi yosithal" was quite okay.. but his final wistle was excellent.. I liked that very much. Judges gave 10 points each for this round and mp3 player to Roshan.. So, it stands at 50 for both the team and tomorrow it would decide who would be the winner..

Grand opening day 2

Airtel Super Singer Junior 2 had started this week and this week is termed as "Grand Opening" of the show in Vijay TV.. continuing the competition between the previous Airtel Super Singer and Juniors.. first it was Manicka Vinayagam joining the show as the special guest.. his "koduva meesa aruva paarva" was typically his style ;).. first to compete in the show was Dhanyasri & Ranjani..Dhanyasri's "aasayila pathi naadu" was really better than Ranjani's "kaathadi pola yendi enna" and it got her MP3 player and also 10 points for their team.. Then it was a kind of duet round.. Ravi and Anitha joined to sing "thendral vanthu" which brought tears in special guest Anitha Kupusamy.. and Sai Charan & Madhumitha of junior team were equally good and their "kaatre en vaasal vanthai".. so both the team earned 10 points each and also mp3 player ;).. finally its at 35 to juniors and 30 to seniors.. lets see how it goes today..

Its Sernior Vs Junior

It was competition between the senior and the junior contestants of the last season on the first day of the Super Singer junior 2 show.. the show started with Ajeesh, Ravi, Vijay. Prasanna, Ranjanai, Raghini, Aruna singing "engeyum eppothum" and followed by juniors krishnamoorthy, vignesh, Balasarangal singing "varuthu varuthu vilagu vilagu".. since being the first show Mahathi & Anitha Kupusamy the jduges of the show started with "vakra thunda mahakaya".. then the competition started with Ajeesh and Vignesh.. Ajeesh's "enkitta mothathe" was better than "pothuvaga en manasu thangam"..

Next it was Balasarangan to start with "poomalai vaangi" and Raghini's "marainthirunthu paarkum marmam enna".. it was Balasarangan who had the advantage.. so at the end of the episode it was 15 points each for seniors and the juniors. with Ajeesh and Balasarangan winning mp3 players for themselves..

Anbe Vaa Launched !!

Close on the heels of success of television serials like ‘Idu Oru Kadhal Kadhai’ and ‘Kadhalikka Neram illai’ Vijay TV brings once again another interesting serial based on love aptly called Anbe Vaa from this evening onwards. Anbe Vaa is a story of three friends - Jeeva, Jana and Adi who are on the verge of taking the plunge into the real world and is also experiencing their first bout of love. The love stories of the closely knit friends cross each other and is deftly handled by Venkat Ramanan, the director who has also penned the script and screenplay. Balagurunathan is the cinematographer and Rattan the music composer. This serial was launched yesterday in Vijay TV...

whos in Super Singer Junior 2 ??

This week being the first week of the super singer junior 2, the show doesnt really have the auditions or junior 2 contestants.. its been the competition between the super singer 2008 contestants and junior 1 contestants.. Super singer 2008 contestants include Ravi, Ajeesh, Ranjani, Aruna, Prasanna, Raghinishree and Vijay Narayan.. junior include (I dont know everyone's name.. so list will be short for sure) Balasarangan, Vignesh, krishnamoorthy.. Malini & Yugendran anchor the show and sterday it was with judges Mahathi & Anitha Kupusamy.. from the promo it looks like the judges would change every day..

Whats in Super Singer Junior 2 ??

Airtel Super Singer junior 2 had started sterday and the show was funfilled with the super singer 2008 contestants and the super singer junior 1 contestants were sharing the stage.. It all started with the fight like fun filled arguments between both the contestants.. they both formed as a team and each of them will compete against other.. so it would be one super singer 2008 contestant competing against super singer junior 1 contestant. based on the performance points are awarded to the contestant.. winner will get 10 points and other person will get 5 points and also the winner will get an mp3 player.. might be next week they will start with the auditions of the coimbatore event..

Achamundu Achamundu Special..

It was Achamundu Achamundu team @ Koffee with Anu sterday and it was like a promotional episode for the film ;).. the show was good and I got to know more information about the film. The Film has actor Prasanna and actress Sneha in the lead roles... this film is being directed by Arun Vaidyanathan and produced by SPB Charan's capital works & an US media company. Arun Vaidyanathan was a software engineer and later he directed around 8-10 hollywood short films. This film Achamundu achamundu is being shooted only in USA and its about an ordinary NRI settled in Colombia.. this show had Sneha first speaking about her entry into film career and later followed by Prasanna.. he even said about his entry into tamil film industry when he dropped out of his engineering for films :).. Arun Vaidyanathan joined them and spoke about the film for some time.. the music of the film is by Karthik Raja and seems that the film had already got some awards in shangai film festival.

Later it was Sneha and Prasanna to have rapid fire questions by Anu.. it was my favourite segment with any guests and this time even it was very good.. both had a question on half way through your favourite project you get a scene that requires swinsuit.. what will u react ??.. Prasanna said .. he will work out and Sneha said a big NO. when Sneha said about a old person immitating her commercial in public. I was not able to control my smile ;).. thne the show had Coffee tarro and koffee award.. they both gave the award to director Susi Ganesan who is the first director for the both the actors..

Talking Myena

Some can talk, some can only talk. Talking and Listening has become very important part of our life. Actually many must be wondering how come this paragraph starts with the words some can talk, while all with a mouth and a tongue can talk. But the fact is not all that which comes out from the mouth is talking. It is not people who think, 'they have a mouth and hence can talk', who can talk but it is those who look consciously for ears who can talk. It is this inseparable pair, a mouth and as many ears which gives the sense to talking. More the ears, better and popular the speaker.

Singing is a talent, which is different from a speech for it is about musical notes in a voice. Both Singing and talking can succeed only if the ears permits. And it is very rare that a single voice can do both with ease. Singers bring in their voice, feelings of sadness, joy, drama, shock etc etc and connect it with the listening ears and through it the heart, by their melodies and less noise. Speakers are also like musicians for they use their words instead of voice to connect. The connect is common. They both help their audience 'connect' with their emotions. Many musicians seldom speak, for may be it counter productive or may be it interferes in the quality of their voice. Very few like SPB and Chinmayi can do both with equal ease and with absolute no discomfort to either talent. The gift of the gab and the voice is bestowed on them.

Chinmayi knows many languages and is a popular singer. Also she can master any show by her elegant eloquence. She became a singer because of a TV program and she became an accomplished anchor again because of a TV show. She was a popular RJ, till the end of May in Aahaa FM in which she was a part right from it's inception. She in the end of last year abruptly disconnected herself from a popular TV show Airtel super singer for which she was the Anchor. Surprisingly it was malini who replaced her in both, raising eyebrows and a question whether it is sheer coincidence or more than what meets the eye.

Malini's confidence and elegance is of course her strength and her ability to cheer any audience is her forte. To compare Malini and Chinmayi is wrong for both have very different strength's. In fact may be it is unfair to Chinmayi to compare them. As for as RJing is concerned Malini is no less proficient for she had earlier anchored many shows, won many beauty pagents in Malaysia, and had headed Swarnoli, a FM station in Lanka. She is a Sinhalese by birth, brought up in Malaysia and lives in Chennai only after Marriage. So her accent is no way local and has all the mix of Lanka and Malaya. But then a Tamil ear likes an offbeat accent. An anchor of a sol vilayattu never can get more popular than a 'isai kudumbam'.

But what pains is should one talent grow only at the expense of another? Is there not enough space for a proper and decent co existence? Why should one chase and shoo the other to make a living?

Chinmayi is suddenly seeing many complex situations. Her voice is suddenly pulled out of AIR and her presence is very seldom in the small screen too. Now there is also competition in the dubbing field too, where a small group have ganged together as an union and are aiming to prevent RJ's from becoming Dubbing artiste. So it looks like the parrots have ganged against a talking Myena. The some who can talk only are edging out the very less who can also talk, it seems.
Chinmayi is a multi faceted person and is immensely Intelligent and talented and surely she will find her space which will only be big. When a door shuts it is always a key for a bigger door. Apples do not grow everywhere, surely not in Chennai, but is sought everywhere.

Junior getting delayed ??

Earlier there were information in the internet and also in some interviews of the Vijay TV general manager that the Airtel Super Singer Junior 2 will start from June 22nd.. but there are no promotional vidoes being telecasted in the channel until now.. last week it was bloopers and unseen videos week and I was expecting the junior version to begin today.. I think Trichy auditions would have been completed by this time.. now with both Coimbatore and Trichy auditions getting over, Chennai alone is left for the auditions. Will they be starting this show atleast next week or still dragging to start itself ??? atleast in Super Singer 2008, the show was dragged for long long time to get over but in contradictory here.. its getting dragged to start itself ;).. I will keep u guys posted with the status of Trichy auditions.. I was looking at the schedule in Vijay TV website but its "Star Vijay Special".. I think they would be retelecasting the Vijay Awards program.

Interview with VJ Ramya

I found this interview with VJ Ramya floating in the internet and its almost a year old now..
-By Ergo Correspondent

Your dad is a lawyer, what made you take up VJing as a career?

I always aspired to choose a different career path, not sticking to the usual professions like medicine, law, engineering, etc. After passing out of 12th standard, I planned to pursue fashion designing in UK. I even went there to check out the different colleges but my parents were not comfortable with sending me abroad. I landed up doing Viscom in MOP and here I am as a VJ.

What is the secret behind your successful stint as a VJ?

Dedication and hardwork. I am a person who is very passionate about my profession and give it the utmost priority. I believe in the saying, “Do your best and God will do the rest.” I proudly call myself a Vijay TV product.

Tell us about one of your most unforgettable VJing experience

Once, while shooting for a celebration episode of Kallaka Povadhu Yaaru 4, Badava Gopi was the chief guest. He came up on stage and shook my hands and kept on pulling my leg when the camera was rolling. Spontaneously I managed the situation and made it look like a comic situation. It was hilarious and we all enjoyed it.

The one thing you would advice aspiring VJs?

Try to be original and do not ape existing VJs. Confidence is the key, and forget the myth that VJs should speak more of English and less of tamil. Be yourself and convey what you want to with clarity.

Compliments which you cherish

I had compered for the audio release of ‘Kuselan’ and ‘Superstar’ Rajini sir, who is always my star, came up to me and complimented my tamil. That is one moment which I will cherish forever. Also I has gone abroad to host a show for the film ‘Periyar’ and I had to give utmost importance to my tamil diction. Sathyaraj sir complimented my efforts.

Engalil yaar adutha Prabhudeva ??

Engalil yaar adutha Prabhudeva is the promotional video title going on for the UYAP finals.. the last 4 contestants Nanda, Sherif, Manoj kumar and Premgopal are all set to compete in the finals of the competition. This time again the Vijay TV is having a bash.. this finals will also be a LIVE program. this will repeat another LIVE stage show of Airtel Super singer 2008 finals I think. last week it was the prefinal practice round that took place and all the four contestants said that they are planning for a different performance and hopefully they will do it really well.. Personally I like Sherif's innovative performances a lot and I will be happy if he wins the title. This show will have Prabhudeva after whom the show itself if named attending and giving away prizes for the contestants.

Pooja marches ahead of Michael..

Pooja continued her run in the Samayal Samayal program and she is now into the final round of the competition.. win in next round will get her modular kitchen as gift. last week it was Sujitha who had won the modular dream kitchen and now Pooja might even join her soon... last week both the teams were given green signal for their good cooking skills.. this week it was Michael and his friend Rishi to compete against Pooja. the ingredient/topic of the day was Mango. Michael should have got better topic/dish to prepare than this for sure.. but his team managed to prepare mango jam even ;) but it was clear that Pooja would win the contest. After Sivakarthikeyan, Nethran and now its Michael.. when will others follow ???

TRAI stresses better quality, content for cable

Newly appointed Trai chairman JS Sarma has stressed on improving content quality, broadcasting techniques and management of cable service operators in a meeting in Srinagar. While talking to cable operators and managers of cable channels in the capital of Jammu & Kashmir, Sarma insisted for a smooth flow of communication, PTI reported. The chairman also said that cable television networking has become an important tool of communication system and as such it must play a balanced role in transmission of programmes and projection of socio-economic issues.Sarma also added that along with rights come obligations. He was pointing the sensitivities involved in transmitting news and other programmes in the state (J&K).

The meeting was one of the series that Trai is conducting throughout the country to take views of cable operators and other stakeholders, before issuing a consultation paper on cable TV tariff for non-Cas areas. Sarma also emphasized on the implementation of quality of service regulation, issued in February by Trai, at the ground level. Also discussed during the meeting were host of issues including quality of cable services, tariffs, problems faced by channel managers and range of services.
